Who, What, When, Where, Why:

Master degree course in railway system engineering opened in Hanoi

The Faculty of Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List” has been linked to the University of Transportation and Communication (UTC) in Hanoi, Vietnam for many years by a cooperation agreement. For example, in 2011, Dr.-Ing. Nguyen Thi Hoai An received a doctor’s degree after a five-year stay at the chair of railway signalling and transport safety technology and with the support of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Dresden University of Technology at the Faculty of Traffic Sciences.
With the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), an English-language master study course “Railway System Engineering” was set up at UTC Hanoi, for which 25 students enrolled in the first year. The curriculum is based on the course of studies in railway system engineering at the Faculty of Traffic Sciences and has been adapted to the requirements of the International Railway Traffic by the chair of railway signalling and transport safety technology. A formal academic act was held in Hanoi on March 22, 2017 in order to open the course. The Rector of UTC Hanoi, Professor Nguyen Ngoc Long, emphasized the importance of internationalization for his educational institution and the importance of commercial study programs. Within the framework of the event, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Trinckauf was awarded the medal for education by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Trinckauf emphasized the importance of education in general and in the field of railway systems in particular. Especially the light rail systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, which are currently under construction, require qualified engineering staff for its operation and maintenance. At the same time, he thanked all employees, both on German and on the Vietnamese side, who contributed to the success of the course.
